Teachers, Students, Day Cares, Schools, Parents…join us in literacy
As a community development project, Embracing Hope Ethiopia is going to be opening a Children’s Reading & Literacy Room. This room at our Day Care facility will serve the community in giving children access to books, as well as helping children and parents learn to read.
Within our work with families, we have found that over 80% of moms enrolled in our project are illiterate. To give them the chance to learn to read, we are giving them a gift, as well as gift to their children.
We also know that it is vital that children have access to books, learn to read and are read to at a young age. We know that these skills pay off with long-term dividends in helping the poverty cycle to be broken.
Here is how you can help us make this dream a reality:
1. If you are a teacher of Early Elementary or Pre-School children – Could you please send us a list of the top 50+ pre-reading, learning to read, and early reader books in your opinion?
2. If you are a parent, teacher, administrator, Day Care operator, or student – We would love your help in creating book drives at schools and day cares where books could be donated that would help young children and their moms to learn to read. We’d love to talk to you if this strikes you as a possibility.
3. If you are an investor in Kingdom type ventures – We are in need of about $2,200 which would be used to buy 2 computers locally, book shelves, a desk, chairs and other furnishings that will outfit the Reading Room and get it ready for books as well as for learners.
If you can help us in any of these areas, please drop us an email at jerry@EmbracingHopeEthiopia.com . Or, if you know a teacher or a school (or church group) that might want to get involved, please pass our information on to them.
